LEON ALVA

ABOUT

Artist of boundless imagination, tireless creator of magical worlds, big eyes and cosmic smiles, which transport anyone who travels through his paintings to a rollicking world where blissful dreams come true.

Leon was born in Mexico D.F. in 1963 surrounded by the monumental murals of Carlos Merida. He grew under the influence of his uncles and masters Ramón Alva de la Canal, himself part of Mexican Muralist Movement and Ramón Sanchez who worked alongside Orozco, Siqueiros and Rivera.

Shortly after the earthquake of 1985 destroyed the murals which decorated his childhood, León Alva decided to leave the city and settle by the sea where ultimately he will become Cancun’s most prolific painter with an unbroken trajectory  that goes back more than 30 years.

Alva has participated in over 40 solo and group exhibitions in cities like New York, Miami, Osaka, Geneva, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Havana, Montreal, Bologna, Paris and Mexico City. And all his work  has been scrupulously documented.
